COUPLING CAR
Every car is equipped with a clutch located between the engine and the gearbox. Its purpose is to disengage the frictional connection, allowing for the engagement of different gears in manual transmissions. The clutch assembly consists of a clutch bell, a clutch disc, and the release bearing. Over time, wear on the clutch is inevitable and cannot be avoided.
When does the clutch need to be replaced?
It is not possible to predict exactly when a clutch needs to be replaced. Auto Müller recommends replacement approximately every 80,000 km – 100,000 km. The wear depends on several factors. A very important factor is the respective driving style. The driver feels it, however, because clear signs appear. If the release bearing is heavily worn, the frictional connection is no longer completely interrupted when the driver depresses the clutch pedal. If the first gear is then engaged with the clutch depressed, the vehicle already starts to roll. When changing gears, loud noises can then always be heard from the transmission. In such a case, a clutch replacement is absolutely necessary to prevent damage to the transmission. However, if the clutch disc is already heavily worn, there is no longer a complete frictional connection. Such a problem is noticeable by the fact that acceleration no longer takes place when accelerating. The engine just howls without the vehicle accelerating noticeably. When starting on an incline, it is sometimes difficult to move the vehicle at all. In this case, too, the clutch should be replaced for safety reasons.
When does the dual mass flywheel need to be replaced?
Since the technology in modern vehicle models is housed in a very small space, numerous vehicle parts have to be dismantled so that the clutch and the dual-mass flywheel can be reached. Once the clutch is removed, the dual-mass flywheel can be inspected more closely. The clutch disc is pressed against the engine flywheel by the clutch bell to create the frictional connection. Therefore, wear also occurs on the dual mass flywheel over time. Whether the dual mass flywheel needs to be replaced can only be determined after the clutch has been removed. If the dual mass flywheel is worn and it is not replaced, then the newly installed clutch will not last very long, in addition, it may cause vibration when driving.
