REPLACE BRAKES
When should brakes be replaced?
Brake life varies depending on the type of vehicle, driving style and maintenance intervals. However, there are some signs that indicate brakes should be replaced:
- Squealing or grinding noises when braking: this may indicate wear on the brake pads or rust on the brakes.
- Vibrations or a spongy feeling when braking: this may indicate warped or damaged brakes or a problem with the brake disc.
- Brake pedal drops too far: This may indicate a problem with the brake booster or a leak in the brake circuit.
- Brake warning light comes on: This may indicate a problem with the brakes or another part of the brake circuit.
How often should the brake pads and discs be changed?
It is recommended to have the brakes checked at regular intervals by a qualified mechanic. It is recommended to have the brakes checked at least every 100’000 to 150’000 km or once a year, or when you notice that the brakes feel different or the car needs more time to brake. Exactly when the brake pads should be replaced is dictated by the manufacturer.
How to determine when the brakes need to be replaced?
Depending on the type of car, you will directly receive a message that the brakes need to be replaced. Also, the brakes will start to squeal when they are no longer roadworthy. If your brakes squeak, we recommend you to visit the nearest garage immediately.
